MIT Students build a LOLrio Kart

Date: June 29 2009 Posted by: Jenn C

Students at MIT have built a Go Kart out of a good ol’ fashion shopping cart. It travels up to 45mph, and the inspiration comes from none other than the famous “Mario Kart 64″ game. :) Dubbed the “LOLrioKart”, the original cart has been re-made and upgraded into a less-than-stellar-but-still-pretty-crazy ride.

It’s a Two-Seater Sidecar attached to a motorbike!

First, let me start off by saying that I have a strange infatuation with Motorbikes. If I see one on the street, I just kind of stop everything I’m doing, and watch them go by. I would so love to see this in action!

About 10 years of blood, sweat and hard work have gone into this awesome “monstrosity”. 15, 000 Euros, 10, 000 hours of work and it is now completed. Oh, did I mention that it’s also done by an amateur? Look at the interior of this baby!

All hand made, too! Triple 1000cc, 3 exhausts, headlights come from a Kawasaki 1000 RX Bike, tail lights come from a Citroën Xantia car.

Wakey, Wakey…!

Okay, this just has to be either the best/funniest, or dumbest idea (for a bed) I’ve ever seen. It’s just so amusing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this…

Someone named “Kevin” has built a computer-controlled, air-compressor Alarm Clock to wake him up. He’s awoken in a violent manner, every day for the past 4 years. Unfortunately, embedding isn’t allowed, so you might want to click here to view the original link, along with the accompanying video.

BKRW x Black Rainbow feat. SHKS Fashion from Alta Media Productions on Vimeo.

This is simple and probably one of the best lookbooks I’ve come across.  I really love the way that this video lookbook turned out for Black Rainbow’s Capsule Collection for Summer 09.  Seriously…don’t you think this is Rad?

Definitely unique in my opinion.  Props to those involved!  Comment or hit me up on twitter (@mindzai) to share your thoughts.

Dominic of Plastered Tshirts in China approached 5 artists to turn their favorite Chinese Hero into beautiful stain glass. These are some of the designs that are ready for production.  This one above of Mao is already in production whereas the two below are going to take some time because they are so complicated.  Don’t they look amazing though? Frick man…I want one.

Green Dam Youth Escort Illustrations

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the mandatory software to be sold with all computers in China.  It’s called Green Dam and it monitors your internet traffic and the content that you surf.  Their goal, they say, is to block pornography but could be used for “other purposes”  Pretty ridiculous…yes i know.  But I thought this was fascinating.  Internet citizens have created their own manga style versions of the Green Dam Girl. See 2 more below after the jump.

Fallen Princesses by Dina Goldstein

Dina Goldstein has a great photo series called Fallen Princesses which replaces the traditional “happily ever after” stories with much more…umm…realistic outcomes.  I especially find this one above with Snow White interesting.  I can’t tell by looking at her whether she’s content or pissed off.  In any case, it’s a great series.  Check out more at JPG Magazine and her portfolio.

Whew….we’re back!

The photo above titled Epidemia de Pánic taken by Eneas represents 2 things.  The H1N1 situation in Mexico near the end of April and the status of my server for the past couple months.

We experienced some kind of weird virus issues on our servers last month that was deleting some of our own files…hence the lack of updates.  We found the issue and after a stressful month or so of cleaning and revamp planning, we are back!!

We’ve also been planning our 2nd art event called The Peek which you can read in the next post or find more details here.
